The 48-hour follow-up

What happens in the 48 hours after the event matters more than what happened in the 30 days before it. Three audiences, three actions, one window.

The room cools down within 48 hours. The video views drop. The press cycle moves on. Whatever has not been captured and re-broadcast in that window becomes deniable history.

Audience 1: Constituents who attended. Within 48 hours: a thank-you email naming what happened, what commitments were captured (with the video link), and the next action they can take. This is also the message that adds them to the captain pipeline if they self-identified at the event.

Audience 2: The official. Within 48 hours: a written letter (cc press, cc partner orgs) that thanks them for attending, restates the commitments they made in their own words, and names the next milestone — the next vote, the next bill, the next town hall. This is the document that prevents drift.

Audience 3: The press. Within 48 hours: a follow-up release with the headline commitment, the video clip, and one constituent quote. Send it to every outlet that attended or covered the event, and to two outlets that did not cover it but should have.

One internal action. Lead organizer holds a 30-minute debrief with the five role-owners (Module 2.3) within 72 hours. Three questions: what worked, what failed, what changes for the next event. Write it up. The write-up is the working memory of the captain network.

Tone of the 48-hour push. Confident but not triumphant. Specific, with names, dates, and numbers. Every external message includes one number — attendance, commitments captured, partner orgs represented — so the press release can use it.
